Wow what a place... This town is the hippie drug center of Australia... We went there for the day to do evangelism..We posted a lot on Facebook but for those of you who don't do Facebook here is a little recap!
First of all on our way to Nimbin one of our vans broke down right away and we knew "it was on!!" let the warfare begin!! So we prayed and managed all squeeze into two vans and two other vehicles and made it all the way there in time to set up a free BBQ for lunch.
We set up a sound system, and BBQ area where we cooked a couple hundred hotdogs etc... Then we sent out all the students into Nimbin and invited all the hippie travelers to come to the free BBQ...
Pia, one of our staff, and I played some worship together just to bring a sense of God's presence and to create a covering in the spirit realm (cuz its super dark).. Then all the students went out and got into conversations....
To paint the picture of how crazy this place is, the first person the students met was a woman satanist... She didn't want to hear anything about Jesus and she talked about how she reads the satanic bible every day... We met another guy who was wearing all these crystals on himself and carried around a baby wallaby and said he was a god and the god of the kangaroos etc... Ummm ya! Very interesting to say the least but amongst all the strangeness God was working big time!
Martina, our Norwegian student, met this woman who was SO HUNGRY to know about God. She had her little son with her and told Martine how happy she was to meet her cuz that week she was having a really hard time in her life and was realizing she needed God but didn't know much about him or how to even begin finding out about him.... And then we showed up... She cried with joy and for two hours she sat with Martine and another Norwegian student Arne and they shared all about the love of Jesus and were able to answer so many of her questions.. They also gave her a bible and she was able to get plugged into a church near by... GO GOD!!
We met another man who sat RIGHT In front of where we were playing music and just listened... He had grown up catholic but walked away from his faith and was seeking spiritual things.. We offered prayer and he accepted.. After praying over him he looked like he has tears in his eyes and said he felt a lot better from our prayer...
There are many more stories but its really late and I'm tired :) ... One cool thing is that almost everyone we prayed for said they felt the presence of God in some way, or cried, or said they felt so much better... In our time doing evangelism on this DTS we've noticed that it's PRAYER that really changes things... We just want to encourage you in your daily lives to offer prayer for people and pray right then and there ... It's pretty amazing what will happen!
